I'm still looking for more beta testers for the patched M571 v7.0 BIOS, so
if you want you can join-in.
... home.hccnet.nl/j.steunebrink/990421j1.zip
...
For the beta test with a K6(+), I'm interested in the following
information:
- Does the boot screen indicate the correct CPU Type string? (In case of a
"plus" CPU you should see "AMD-K6(tm)-3")
- Is the correct CPU Frequency indicated?
- Check if all Caches are operating normally. I usually take the Cachechk
V7
utility for that. If you run it with the -d switch, you will get accurate
memory timings with one digit after the decimal point. Cachechk v7 can be
downloaded via: web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/cachchk7.zip
- To check if Write Allocation is enabled, you can use my READMSR util
from web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/Readmsr11.zip
Please run the util from a clean real mode DOS prompt (skip config.sys and
autoexec.bat) so that the unaltered CPU state, just after the BIOS bootup
is
shown. You can dump the output in a file with the command:
READMSR > BIOSTEST.TXT
Please send me the output and also indicate the amount of RAM you used.
...
When I replaced the VGA ROM by the v1.13, I noticed that the v7.0 990421S
BIOS used a v1.10 VGA ROM, so the difference is not that dramatic. If you
can test with the on-board VGA, please let me know how it works with the
new
v1.13 ROM code in the patched BIOS.
